2022: Armenia Wants Peace

‼️ DEJA VU ‼️ i just returned to LA from a two week visit to my homeland of Armenia and i can’t decipher if it’s 2023, 2022, 2020, 1988-1994 or 1915-1922 😵‍💫

09.13.22 〰 last year i bought tickets to visit Armenia, but the day before my flight, azerbaij*n launched a full scale attack into civilian areas across the southeastern boarder of Armenia proper, so i cancelled my trip.

10.04.22 〰 feeling helpless and distraught, i joined this peaceful Armenian protest in santa monica, california exactly one year ago.

i’ve always felt grateful to live in los angeles, where there is diversity as well as a large Armenian diasporian community. however in this instance, i remember feeling the pain of my brothers and sisters protesting around me, and observing non-armenians walk past the protest without blinking; unbothered, off to buy a frozen yogurt or new pair of leggings.

10.04.23 〰 one year later nothing has changed, except the stakes for Armenians are higher, we have lost more than you can imagine.

Still, we try to share the atrocities azerbaij*n was/is commiting, that our US tax dollars were/are supporting

and the selective ignorance, apathy and silence from the international community (offline and online) was/is increasingly deafening.
