2017 ծիծեռնակաբերդ [tsitsernakaberd]

translates to swallow’s fortress. it symbolizes the rebirth of the armenian people. it was built in 1967 as a memorial to commemorate the victims of the armenian genocide of 1915. 12 slabs positioned in a circle represent the 12 lost provinces [in present day turkey]. the center of the circle has a depth of 1.5 meters where an eternal flame burns, dedicated to the 1.5 million armenians perished during the genocide.
